Scary moment

Last night Dominic and Ruby went to pick up a pizza while I fed the twins. The babies were having their formula and a side of farm fresh egg yolks. Luca was into his second bite when a frightening thing happened. He started to choke. It happened so fast and it freaks me out when I replay it in my mind. He opened his mouth as if to cough but nothing. I calmly pulled him out of his bouncer and lightly patted him on the back. We recently took an infant CPR class and I was doing what most parents do. Most parents will start out gently patting the infant and realize rather quickly that they need to shift to Plan B and use violent force to save their child. Well I knew that I had arrived at that moment and to be honest, I froze—part fear and part disbelief that I would have to go down this route of actually using CPR. Then I witnessed an amazing thing. Luca took things into his own hands. Luca’s stomach kicked into survival mode. It scrunched all it’s might and pushed everything up—and out. I now wish I had photos to show you how much liquid came out. His vomit completely covered my shirt and sweatpants. It was like a scene from Poltergeist. I didn’t even flinch because I was still waiting for signs that he was breathing. He started crying and I just held him and thanked the angels that were watching over us.

**The egg yolks, although diluted with water, were too chalky and I’m guessing too dry to swallow. I have a hunch peanut butter would have the same affect.
