Point of No Return

Last weekend, marked a milestone for Luca. Great for him–terrifying for us. In the morning, I made the mistake of telling Milo and Luca all about our future field trip to Laurelhurst Park. I went into all the elaborate details of going for a car ride, saying “Hi!” to the ducks, “quack quack quack”  so on and so forth. Well, when the time came, Dominic and I were on the fence because it had just started to sprinkle and was quite cold out. We were standing in the doorway with two fully bundled toddlers. I started to explain to Luca that we were going to play in the backyard instead. Oh. My. God. Complete meltdown. He was waiting at the fence staring at our car in the driveway, screaming his little big head off. Dropping to the ground. Hands to face in disbelief. “Cahr. Cahr. Cahr.”

Dominic gave me this look. Part “I so don’t want to do this.” Part “It’s your call.” So I said, “We’re goin’!” I couldn’t bare another minute of this loud tantrum. Within minutes, we were cramming into the back of our stupid two-door Honda. Seat buckles were clicking. Dominic grabbed the stroller and shoved it in the trunk. What was my lesson in all of this? The boys have long term memory now!

Psst! If I were a neighbor, I would have loved to have witnessed this family dysfunction episode from behind slightly closed blinds. Loved.
