Baby Smarts

For the last couple of weeks, new words have been rolling off Milo and Luca’s little tongues. I’m humbled their brain power. It’s not that I think they aren’t smart but I confuse their intelligence with their day to day dependence. As parents, it’s our duty to warm their warm milk bottles, diversify their meal plans, read their books, rid them of butt rashes and so on. So when they chirp new words, it makes me realize they are highly intelligent creatures. It also makes me realize I need to curb my potty mouth. It’s kind of ridiculous on my part I admit. Maybe I’m the dummy.

Milo’s favorite food word is apple, which he pronounces as “app app.” Luca does this cute thing where he adds an extra “th” to his words, i.e. moon is “moonth”. Adorable! Here’s a glance at some of their words on their chalkboard.

Point of No Return

Last weekend, marked a milestone for Luca. Great for him–terrifying for us. In the morning, I made the mistake of telling Milo and Luca all about our future field trip to Laurelhurst Park. I went into all the elaborate details of going for a car ride, saying “Hi!” to the ducks, “quack quack quack”  so on and so forth. Well, when the time came, Dominic and I were on the fence because it had just started to sprinkle and was quite cold out. We were standing in the doorway with two fully bundled toddlers. I started to explain to Luca that we were going to play in the backyard instead. Oh. My. God. Complete meltdown. He was waiting at the fence staring at our car in the driveway, screaming his little big head off. Dropping to the ground. Hands to face in disbelief. “Cahr. Cahr. Cahr.”

Dominic gave me this look. Part “I so don’t want to do this.” Part “It’s your call.” So I said, “We’re goin’!” I couldn’t bare another minute of this loud tantrum. Within minutes, we were cramming into the back of our stupid two-door Honda. Seat buckles were clicking. Dominic grabbed the stroller and shoved it in the trunk. What was my lesson in all of this? The boys have long term memory now!

Psst! If I were a neighbor, I would have loved to have witnessed this family dysfunction episode from behind slightly closed blinds. Loved.

Milo enters Boogeytown

Dominic and I are blown away by this little creature’s dance moves. He gets his fluid moves from his papa, of course.

Jumping jellybeans!

My little boy

Dominic emailed me some photos while I was at work and I almost cried. He gave Luca a haircut and this made my baby look all grown up. I love his baby curls (we’re guessing came from the D’Andrea side). Luca also looked a bit skinny with his top off. Mama likes her babies plump.
