Distracted by the everyday

I don’t know who reads this blog (say “Hello” why don’t you?) but sorry for the long silence. Life’s To-Do list gets long and so many little milestones happen in the meantime. The biggest news is Milo can sign now. He puts his index finger on his tongue when he is hungry. It’s mind-blowing because that means he can understand what we are saying even though he can’t talk back. Luca makes a little clucking noise with his tongue when he wants food. Just as charming. Milo also touches his head when he wants to say “dad”.

We recently went a 2 year old’s birthday party. Dominic and I were really cautious at first, following the babies like bodyguards. The only room that is child-proofed in our house is the nursery so we didn’t know how the twins would do with all the open space. Surprise—they were awesome! Not one fall. They were extremely shy at first but slowly with the temptation of new bright toys, they opened up and started exploring.

Milo is simply precious in this photo. He looks like his Grandmum Gloria.

The Difference A Year Makes

Back to Normal

My parents are back in Ohio and our life is back to normal. Simple. It’s not that my parents are difficult people. But when they get together, it’s like that scene in Fantastic Mr. Fox, when Mr. Fox has a meeting with the Badger and things get heated FAST. Spontaneous combustion at any given moment since my father is deaf, my mother easily irritated and they’ve been married for 39 years. 

Some things get lost in translation between Vietnamese and English but one thing my parents said made me laugh. They couldn’t get over how smooth the babies’ skin were. They said it was smooth like a boiled egg. Ha! So true.

I took my mom and dad to the Goodwill store to kill some time and to get out of the house. My dad couldn’t get over the size of the place. Going clothes shopping with my mom is a hoot. She honestly will pick out the worst looking, most scary patterned, ill-fitted clothes in the entire store. My dad was proud of this leather coat that he pulled from the rack. I was cocky and dismissed it saying it was cheap pleather. I was wrong. It was leather and more importantly, “Made in the USA!”. He also dropped some slang, “It’s money,” which cracked my ass up.  For a mere $24.99, my dad felt like a million bucks. My favorite day ever!
